When God Moves You Forward by Inches
Scripture (KJV): “For we walk by faith, not by sight.” — 2 Corinthians 5:7
The Quiet Math of God
Progress rarely looks heroic while it’s happening. Most days it’s inches, not miles—one prayer whispered before work, one kind choice when you’re tired, one verse held like a lantern in a dark hallway. We crave fireworks; God forms foundations. He is the Architect who delights in steady loads, true lines, and plumb walls—because what’s built slow can bear more glory.
Faith’s walk is not a sprint but a cadence: step—breathe—trust—repeat. We don’t see the whole bridge; we’re given the next plank. Yet every plank is laid on promises that cannot fail.
Inches That Add Up
- A guarded tongue today becomes a gentler spirit tomorrow (Prov. 15:1).
- A small yes to obedience opens a wider door next week (John 14:23).
- Five quiet minutes in the Word re-strings the heart for a louder day (Ps. 119:105).
- Choosing forgiveness sands down bitterness that could have owned your future (Eph. 4:32).
Heaven’s ledger notices the little. The widow’s mite was small to men and monument to God. The mustard seed looked like dust and became shade for many. The lunch of a boy became a banquet for a hillside. God multiplies inches into impact.
When Sight Argues Back
Sight says, “It’s too slow.” Faith answers, “He who began a good work will perform it” (Phil. 1:6). Sight stares at closed doors; faith checks the doorknob called prayer—again. Sight counts what’s missing; faith counts Who is present.
If you feel delayed, remember: delays in God are often deliveries in process. He’s aligning people, timing, and terrain so your step will land on solid ground when the moment arrives.
A Simple Rule for Thursday
Do the next faithful thing—the thing love would do, truth would say, humility would choose. Then do it again. That’s how saints are forged and how ordinary Thursdays become testimonies.
Reflection Questions
- Where have I seen “inches” this week that I should celebrate instead of despise?
- What is my next faithful thing today—specifically?
- Who needs one encouraging word from me before the day ends?
Prayer
Lord, slow me to Your pace and steady me by Your hand. Teach me to trust the inches, honor the small, and walk by faith when sight shouts otherwise. Multiply today’s obedience into tomorrow’s harvest. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
