The Divide Between Wisdom and Foolishness

Scripture: Proverbs 14:16 — “A wise man feareth, and departeth from evil: but the fool rageth, and is confident.”

There’s a thin line between wisdom and foolishness—but that line makes all the difference.

The wise pause before they speak; the foolish rush ahead without listening. The wise seek understanding; the foolish assume they already have it. The wise humble themselves under God’s guidance; the foolish exalt their own opinions.

Proverbs shows us that wisdom isn’t measured by knowledge but by how we apply it. Wisdom asks, “What would please God?” while foolishness asks, “What do I want?” The two can’t walk together because their destinations are different—one leads to life, the other to regret.

Sometimes, the difference is revealed not in grand moments but in daily decisions—how we handle correction, respond to anger, or use our words. Wisdom may not always sound loud, but it speaks with peace. Foolishness always shouts and later weeps.

True wisdom begins when we fear the Lord—not in trembling fear, but in reverent awe that trusts His way above our own.
